Take Action: Fund the Maryland Healthy Soils Program

Take Action to fund the Maryland Healthy Soils Program (HB8)!

This important bill, sponsored by Del. Krimm, would allow Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) funds to be used for the currently-unfunded Maryland Healthy Soils Program, encouraging and supporting farmers in their journey to build soil health.

Benefits of healthy soils on Maryland’s farmland:

  • Increases farm resilience and profitability
  • Improves water quality and ecosystem biodiversity
  • Sequesters carbon to help mitigate the effects of climate change

Maryland is already a leader when it comes to healthy soils practices. However, it is important that we continue to act as leaders in this space and support farmers as they implement practices that build soil health. This bill will ensure the viability and resilience of Maryland farms, position farmers as leaders in the climate movement, and help substantially reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure Maryland farmers have the support they need to improve their bottom line, build up soil health, and fight climate change!
