Betsy Nicholas

img_5235-1About Betsy:  Betsy Nicholas is the Founder of Fair Farms and Executive Director of Waterkeepers Chesapeake since 2012. After earning her law degree from Tulane, Betsy was General Counsel for Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and an attorney in the Environmental and Natural Resources Division of U.S. Department of Justice. Betsy is an expert in several environmental issues, including both industrial and regenerative agriculture.

Why Fair Farms? “Returning to our agricultural roots is an important component to my work because diversity in farm practices is a cornerstone to sustainability and the only path forward for a clean Chesapeake Bay.”


Devora Kimelman-Block

About Devora: Devora is the Agriculture Policy Specialist for Waterkeepers Chesapeake, and manages the Fair Farms Campaign. Devora is a food business entrepreneur, agricultural supply chain specialist, and farm owner with a mission to support the adoption of regenerative agriculture. She is the Founder and CIO of KOL Foods – the only national purveyor of 100% grass-fed kosher beef and kosher heritage chicken. She has 15 years of experience promoting regenerative farming practices, recruiting partners, and setting up systems of production and distribution. Devora, her husband Jason, and four children are founding members of Eastern Village Cohousing, an award winning LEED certified green building in downtown Silver Spring.

Why Fair Farms? “I am an activist. My activism involves supporting regenerative agriculture, which works in concert with nature to enable a resilient future for food and farming.”
